Every now and then, you might start a large project that requires a dumpster rental to help get rid of the debris and trash generated from the project. It is the most efficient way to get rid of any waste during clean outs or remodeling projects. However, it is important to remember that not everything is allowed to be thrown away in a dumpster. There are some items that require special disposal and will need to be discarded differently. Mickey’s Carting is here to talk about some of the items that are off limits when it comes to throwing them away in a dumpster rental.
Items You Should Avoid Putting in a Dumpster Rental
While most of the waste that piles up during your project is fine to throw in the dumpster you have rented, there are a few things that you should always avoid putting in a dumpster.
– Electronics: With all the upgrades that we all make with our electronic devices, it might be tempting to discard the old ones in the dumpster you have rented for a project you’re working on. However, you need to remember that electronics are on the no no list. They have to be disposed of carefully or recycled because of the toxic compounds found inside them including mercury, lead or cadmium.
– Oil/Gas/Fuel: You might have an old, rusty propane tank or gas can that you’re ready to part ways with, but these shouldn’t go in a dumpster rental either. These items are unsafe when they make it to local landfills and should be discarded at a specialized tire recycle center.
– Car Batteries: Most car batteries are accepted at your local auto shop and shouldn’t be thrown away in a dumpster either. They are filled with acid and lead that can be harmful to the environment when they make contact with ground soil.
– Asbestos: If your home was built before the 80s and you are renovating it, make sure you don’t have any asbestos in there. Not only should it not be thrown in a dumpster rental, but you shouldn’t remove it yourself as it can cause serious health problems for you. You will need to contact your state waste agency to find out where you can get rid of it.
– Appliances: Most of the old appliances in your home shouldn’t be thrown into a dumpster rental either. There are too many electronic components that shouldn’t be disposed of that way. If you are ready to get rid of any old appliances, you can contact your local utility company to help you get rid of them.
